Cannot Import Application into 3.8

Hello,
I tried importing the application I have been building into the 3.8 Windows Portable version of REI3 and it won't install with the "Add from file" option in the Applications Menu. It fails with too many loops. However, on 3.7.6 it still installs properly.

Hello Bore 🙂

To get a proper error message, you can go to Admin->Logs->Settings and set "Transfer" to "Everything". Then repeat the import attempt. With logging set to "Everything" you will get all related messages.

If you could post the last 50-100 lines here, I could have a look at what might be the cause.

I see 2 issues in these logs:

In the app mofo you have at least one preset record in the relation suppliers which does not define a value for the column haccp, which is not null (eg. must have a value). Once you set a value for this preset and re-export, this issue should be resolved.
The app ID generator also complains about missing values, though I just tested it and the import works fine in my 3.8 system.

Please try to fix issue 1 first, re-export and try again. I assume it will work then. If not, please repost your log.

I am a little confused though because while that Boolean is required for that relation, it is also set to have a default value of false, and in other presets records where I have that combination (ie, the value is empty for a required field in the preset but it is also default false on the relation, REI3 doesn't complain) it has worked, and even this case I am certain there are more where this continues to be the case (ie there are other presets with empty values on relations that are required but false). Is there something about this combination that is different that would explain why it worked as it was for 3.7 but not 3.8.

I have a number of presets (more than is perhaps advisable I have been told...) so should I go through them all and make sure that in all cases the presets have a value for any field that is set to required?

I did not know that you had a default value for the attribute - with a default value is should be fine even if you left it empty for the preset. There are possible complications, if presets refer to each other (e. g. 1 preset is set as value on another preset´s relationship attribute). But to know for certain, I´d need to take a look at your app.

To you question: There was a change in 3.8 that addresses some issue with empty preset values, which could be related to your issue and the reason why import in 3.7 worked before.

It is generally good practice to set all preset values - it´s more straightforward and there is less opportunity for error. But if you can successfully export/import your app, I would say that you are fine and do not need to spend the effort.
